About Albox

Albox is the most populous town in the Almanzora Valley, with 12,799 inhabitants according to the 2025 INE census, and one of the few in the area with more residents today than in 2011. It lies in the north-east of the valley.

Albox has two great dates in its calendar. On the night of 7 September, its people walk in pilgrimage (romería) to the Sanctuary of the Virgen del Saliente, their patron saint, high in the Sierra de las Estancias: a fiesta declared of Tourist Interest in Andalusia. And in early November comes the All Saints Fair, which began as a livestock fair and was recognised by a royal decree of Ferdinand VII in 1829. Since 1985 the fair has also hosted the Rock Albox Festival.

The Tuesday market draws shoppers from across the province, and Albox is home to a large share of the lorry fleet that carries Almería’s farm produce to the rest of Europe. The town also keeps its traditional pottery and its yellow travertine stone, quarried here since Roman times.

On this page you will find all the news from Albox: local council news, incidents, fiestas, culture, sport, jobs and the people who make the town. Neighbouring towns: Arboleas, Cantoria, Oria, Partaloa and Taberno.
